Price, Usability, Learning Curve…?
I’m writing an article about what I think are areas for improvement that Autodesk could make. Why do you think AutoCAD Civil 3D is not good for professional land surveyors? I bet you have a few ideas!
Many land surveyors routinely complain about: price, usability, work-flows, ridiculous amount of setup or the steep learning curve. These complaints, however, are just the tip of the iceberg, I think.

So, leave your comments below with why you think AutoCAD Civil 3D is not good for land surveyors. If we, as an industry, don’t define the problem, then Autodesk (and other software providers) won’t address our collective issues.

it’s bloated, overpriced and we pay for too many options that land surveyors will never use.
Agree. They haven’t put enough time or money into the survey portion. I’m an engineer and have tried to implement it in multiple companies. It just doesn’t have what surveyors need.

Let’s face it. AutoCad Cvil 3D was never intended for Land Surveyor use. Follow the money and see who was updating their version on a regular basis. It wasn’t the surveyors. The only thing that motovated most surveyors was to keep up with the Engineers they supported. The technology for every revision since version 9 was to enhance Engineers productivity with a little Modeling, Topographic features and State Plane Coodinate Conversion. The Legal description module they added was a complete joke. It took half the time to write your own description that to revise or modify the fill in the blank rip off.
