Texas Board of Professional Land Surveyors Threatened With Elimination Due To Budget Cuts

Texas Board of Professional Land Surveyors Object of Budget Cuts

This week it was announced by Texas Governor Rick Perry that he is proposing to eliminate the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveyors, along with the elimination of three other agencies and consolidation of several other boards and commissions, as a cost cutting measure to balance that state’s budget.

As Professional Land Surveyors, what are your thoughts on this measure?

I see this as being dangerous on a few levels, at the very least:

  • This potentially is dangerous to the public.
  • This is unfair to individuals seeking to become  licensed.
  • This sends the message that the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveyors is unnecessary, which is untrue and therefore minimizes the profession as a whole.
  • This sends a message to other states, should this proposal move forward, that their Boards of Professional Land Surveyors are unnecessary, too.
