SAM Opens Full Service Office in St. Louis, Missouri

SAM is one of the largest geospatial firms in North America and St. Louis is the sixth full service office for the company. The firm has experienced exceptional growth recently, being ranked second on The Zweig Letter 2013 Hot Firms list, as well as ranking 97 among the Engineering News Record 2014 Top 500 Design Firms.

Jack Butler, PLS, LS, is our Office Manager for the new St. Louis office. He has 41 years of experience in surveying and mapping for a wide range of clients such as the Port of Portland, Oregon Department of Transportation, Western Federal Lands Highway Division, the Federal Aviation Administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and several other public agencies and private sector clients.

Jack’s early career included 15 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before moving into the private sector. Subsequently, he was with WHPacific in the Pacific Northwest for over 20 years before returning to the Midwest. He is a licensed land surveyor in five states including Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Oregon, and Washington state.

He is active in several professional industry organizations, staying current with the latest in surveying and mapping technologies, and has authored multiple articles for prominent national surveying publications.

His major areas of expertise include GPS (fast static and RTK) surveying, control and design topographic surveys, HDS scanning, legal description preparation, and project management. He is knowledgeable in all aspects of geodetic and cadastral surveys. Jack has also performed numerous hydrographic surveys and LiDAR scanning projects. He has managed more than 75 surveying projects for the FAA and has led skilled teams using LiDAR to perform numerous airport obstruction surveys.

Jack’s responsibilities at SAM will include all aspects of management, operations, and business development for the St. Louis office. We are excited to have Jack and his leadership on our team and we look forward to his contributions to our firm.
