Professional Land Surveyor News: AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 Upgrade is Ready for Download

This morning I was quite happy to see an email in my inbox from Autodesk telling me that my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 upgrade is available for me to download! One of the benefits of being an Autodesk Subscription Customer is being able to download your upgrades as soon as they become available.

While Autodesk touts this as an environmental initiative, which of course it is, and you can still select to receive yet another box and DVD to add to your already mountainous collection of Autodesk boxed software, I think employing a digital download delivery system may have more to do with a certain court case Autodesk is involved with with one of its users who has tried to sell an older version of his software on eBay than environmental altruism. Color me cynical.

Digital Download is User friendly, Environment Friendly, and Adds Value

Regardless, I think digital download delivery of my AutoCAD Civil 3D software is user friendly, environment friendly, and adds value to the Autodesk Subscription service. My only concern is for those of you with slow Internet connections. I’m sure that Autodesk is passing the shipping and materials savings on to us, too? Right?

I had heard chatter on the interweb yesterday via Twitter that there where sightings of this much awaited upgrade for AutoCAD Civil 3D, but I was so happy to see the following in my email from Autodesk Subscription:

AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 English, International Commercial Product Upgrade Windows From Previous Version(s) is now available for download!

As an Autodesk® Subscription customer, you have immediate access to your upgrades as soon as they are released. You are receiving this notification because your Autodesk upgrade is ready to download.

Rumor had it, yesterday, that only the English version of AutoCAD Civil 3D was available for upgrade, however I was pleasantly surprised to see that an International Commercial Product Upgrade is also available, as I’m sure are many of you, too.

So go forth, visit Autodesk Subscription Center, and download your AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 Upgrade! Just don’t try this on dial-up, otherwise you might want to take one of those volcanic ash extended European vacations in the news lately while you wait for your software to download.

What’s in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 for Professional Land Surveyors?

In the meantime, I will be downloading my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 upgrade on my super-duper fast broadest of broadband fiber optic Internet connection (which really means: I know digital download will work fine for me, but please let me know how this experience was for you on your Internet connection) and testing out this new version of AutoCAD Civil 3D.

In addition to looking at how this Autodesk software has been improved from an AutoCAD perspective (and MAP), I’ll be delving into what’s in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 specifically for Professional Land Surveyors.
