“In a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2010 Update 2, which fixes or addresses a variety of issues discovered by customers and by Autodesk’s internal testing team. 

Before applying this update, make sure that any customizations made to the user profile (such as, customizations made to the support file search paths, print file customizations, printer support file paths, redirections, custom template settings, and so on) are exported to a secure location, then imported and reapplied after the update has been successfully installed.”

I updated my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 installation last night and it went very smoothly, but it did take some time. In addition to the above noted recommendations to backup your customizations and such, I also recommend that you find your original installation Disk 2, as you will need this to complete the update.

It took me 15 minutes to find my installation disks while the update waited patiently for me.

Autodesk reports that information collected from Customer Error Reporting Utility identified a number of problems addressed in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 Update 2:

• Cross Section Views
• Survey

Summary of known issues fixed with AutoCADCivil 3D 2010 Update 2:

General

• The geolocation information is now cleared properly every time you rebuild a mesh or close to drawing.
• AutoCAD Civil 3D no longer closes unexpectedly when you open styles object or object properties dialog boxes.
• You can now save a drawing template that had password-protection properties removed.
• Performance issues that occurred when you open legacy drawing files have been resolved.
• Issues with system memory loss that occurred when performing various operations have been resolved.
• AutoCAD Civil 3D no longer closes unexpectedly, when you perform the Export Lists command in the Event Viewer on systems running on Windows Vista.

Alignments

• The computational methods for compound Bi-quadratic, Bloss, and Sinusoidal spirals have been corrected. The updated computational methods are applied to compound Bi-quadratic, Bloss, Sinusoidal spirals or when you open existing drawings.
• In a floating line with spiral, the line length can be edited.
• Offset alignments are now created as expected on alignments that have spiral-spiral-curve groups.
• Alignment does not get corrupted geometry and alignment labels are no longer added to the tangent lines extension after you add labels to an alignment.

API

• An error in LabelStyleCollection:: Add () that caused a new label style to have no properties in the Text Component Editor dialog is fixed.
• Newly created LabelStyleTextComponent: StyleGeneral () objects now have a valid default value AnchorPoint.
• Pipe structures now appear in the drawing after being added using the COM API, without the need to issue additional commands.
• Update 2 adds support for additional. NET APIs:
  • APIs that support Alignment Labels
  • APIs that support styles (see the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010. NET API Readme R1 Extension)

  • The AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 SP2. NET API Reference updated with the new API-X R1 and SP2 APIs is available on the Autodesk Developer Network (AND) web site.

• IMPORTANT NOTE:
  The ProfileView.Overrides property has been renamed to ProfileView.GraphOverrides. You must recompile applications that use this property against the AeccDbMgd.dllincluded with Update 2 to run in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 Update 2. You do not need to recompile applications that do not use this property.

Corridors

• AutoCAD Civil 3D no longer closes unexpectedly when you rebuild a corridor model with stations that lie outside the corridor feature line.
• The operation of importing package files into libraries catalog no longer fails.

Cross Section Views

• AutoCAD Civil 3D no longer closes unexpectedly when you delete a surface that was referenced in the section views band set properties, and then attempt to set the properties to a different surface.
• You can now add a material list and material list that specify while you are creating section views. Previously, the material list did not update.

Feature Lines

• AutoCAD Civil 3D behaves as expected when the Quick Profile command is invoked from within the Elevation Editor view.

Grading

• Grading daylight projection lines and lines that are now assigned to separate layers freeze and are not plotted when you specify The corresponding settings in the Layer Properties Manager.

Labels

• Previously, if you reloaded the Xref drawing the labels would revert back to the original state.

LandXML

• AutoCAD Civil 3D no longer closes unexpectedly when you import a LandXML file (with points that do not have the XYZ data) into a survey database.

Pipes

• An issue Involving random termination of the application when importing LandXMLIn pipe networks using the command has been resolved.
• In a pipe network, swapping a structure with a structure from one part of the new structure families now works as expected.

Project Management

• The AutoCAD Civil 3D performance when using Vault for some operations (Login, Checkin, and Select Project to Display) has been improved.
• Civil 3D AutoCAD no longer crashes when you use the Get Latest Version command in Vault Explorer on a drawing that has been deleted.
• In Vault Explorer, the context menu for a survey database now has to Check Out menu item.
• You can now share data from a drawing surface that is added to a project.
• You no longer lose all the shared surface information when you delete one of the shared drawings from Vault.

Surfaces

• AutoCAD Civil 3D no longer closes unexpectedly when you drag to surface in the Object Viewer.

Survey

• Survey LandXML now supports the expected data types User Defined Property. Previously there was only support for a data type String.
• AutoCAD Civil 3D no longer closes unexpectedly when you edit Equipment Setup Properties in the Setup Editor view panorama.
• AutoCAD Civil 3D no longer closes unexpectedly when you export a survey LandXML file with user-defined properties of non-string type.

[Note: There was some confusion when this post was published as to the existence, or not, of an actual Update 2 for Civil 3D 2010. I performed my update using the Communications Center in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010, but on the Autodesk site, there was not a link for an appropriate update to AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010. There is one now, and I’ve made the link to the site above live, which should redirect you to the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 Update 2 Page (or use your Communication Center). Adding to the confusion is the similarity in name to AutoCAD Civil 2010, which is not AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010.
