If you’re on Twitter then you are probably aware of Twitter’s weekly “Follow Friday” social introduction and recommendation tradition. If you’re not on Twitter, or new to the site and its idiosyncrasies, how it works is this: You post a Tweet with people you recommend and include the hashtag of #FollowFriday (or #FF). For example, last week one of my #FollowFriday recommendation tweets looked like this:

#FollowFriday @Indydrafter @cad_notes @iPinda @CADRelations@ryanpconnolly @rose_realestate @luis_galarza

What Follow Friday on Twitter allows you to do is to list the users that you recommend. As usual with Twitter though, is you have to do all of this in 140 characters or less. With that limitation, and that on Fridays Twitter gets all gummed up with lots and lots of these lists, the value of the recommendation can seem watered down and can get lost in the fog. Ideally, on Twitter, you would add a personal note as to why you are recommending one user to your followers. However, with the size limitation this can be problematic and often Twitterers often just push out their list of Follow Friday recommendations like you see above.

With all of that in mind, I thought that I could give the Follow Friday thing on Twitter a little more value by posting here the people I recommend on Twitter. While I have done this before in my Professional Land Surveyor Newsletter with my Twitter Tweepouts, the credit and inspiration to also do this in this blog must go to Chris Brogan (@chrisbrogan) who suggested creating a Follow Friday post, such as this, in his community and social media blog.

So without further ado, here are my Twitter #FollowFriday Recommendations for This Week:

iPinda @iPinda – Located in Venlo the Netherlands, Edward is a CAD specialist, AutoCAD Trainer and self proclaimed Civil 3D addict.

ryanpconnolly @ryanpconnolly – Ryan is a civil engineering student, CAD user, and CAD learner (aren’t we all though). He occasionally refers to me as “mr. colburn”, which makes me laugh. In my mind I’m his age, or younger, but the years do tend to add up after awhile.

cad_notes@cad_notes– Edwin is from Indonesia, is an AutoCAD and Revit user, and writes the popular CAD tutorials and best practices blog CAD NOTES. Edwin’s blog, which I think is great, has been recently updated and it looks great, too. Educational, functional, and elegant, nice job!

envisioncad@envisioncad – The Envision Group has the great tag line of “SEE The CAD Possibilities”; I love that. They are all about “Empowering you with the ability to improve your efficiency and maximize your investment in CAD technology. MicroStation training, AutoCAD Civil 3D customization, InRoads training, and more!” Love that, too!

CDSPaul @CDSpaul– Paul is President of Carlson Desktop Solutions (CDS) which is a technology firm working to help professional land surveyors find faster ways to do things like layout, easier COGO, and “True Field-To-Finish Solutions. I’ve only recently gotten to know Paul, but I look forward to learning more about him, CDS, and Carlson Software Products.

CADRelations @CADRelations – CAD Relations website is an “Engineers Online Portal” for CAD, Engineering, Architecture, Community, Motorsports and Design, including Autodesk and Bentley software, which they proudly shout from the rafters “that is what we love and live for!!” I love the passion that they bring to the industry.

Indydrafter @Indydrafter – Bryan is a knowledgeable resource for CAD tips, tricks, jobs, news, and is “The Indypendent Autodesk Resource!” If you get a chance visit his website and blog, Indydrafter.com, which is chock-full-of Autodesk information.

StevenPFusco @StevenPFusco – Steven is a neighbor, friend, and the Technology Guru behind SPF Technology, providing fast, courteous, and professional computer configuration and repair services. Knowledgeable and experienced in every aspect of computer and IT technologies, Steven is my go-to-guy for everything technology. Besides that, he’s a great guy, too!

LivingRheum @LivingRheum – I’ve saved the best for last – My wife Jo-Ann. Dedicated mother to our three boys, loyal and supportive wife to me, long-suffering surveyor’s wife, business partner, wellness blogger about Rheumatoid Arthritis, compassionate, smart as a tack, and willing to set me straight when need be, Jo-Ann, without a doubt, is the reason I am here today and is the “why” and the “how” I’ve become the man that I am. Thanks, babe! She writes a wonderful blog called LivingRheum, which you should visit.

That’s a wrap!

So there you go, this weeks Twitter Follow Friday Professional Land Surveyor recommendations. Feel free to follow me on Twitter, I’m @EricColburn. Have a great weekend and here’s to seeing you on the web!
