Topcon GR-5 Satellite Receiver Sets New Standard in Signal Tracking, Job Site Precision

Topcon’s GR-5 satellite receiver

LIVERMORE, Calif. – March 17, 2011 – Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) introduces its patented Fence AntennaTM technology and expanded channel support in the new GR-5 GNSS receiver. The GR-5 provides industry-leading tracking sensitivity and multipath rejection in a compact and lightweight package.

In 2006, Topcon introduced the GR-3 GNSS receiver, which made the term “precise positioning” commonplace, and set the global standard for satellite signal reception and job site accuracy. The arrival of the GR-5 raises the bar again: the best just got better.

Ray O’Connor, president and CEO of TPS, said, “Topcon’s innovative Universal Signal Tracking and patented antenna technologies are the foundation of the new GR-5. With 216 channels and multi-constellation tracking, the GR-5 guarantees that an investment in Topcon’s industry-leading technology today will pay dividends into the foreseeable future.”

He added, “The GR-5 is smart and tough. It can perform any task for survey, engineering or construction with unsurpassed ease and dependability, and with its rugged I-beam design it can withstand a two-meter (six-foot) drop onto concrete. Our commitment to continuous innovation in the development advanced tracking and RTK algorithms ensures that GR-5 will deliver superior performance in the most challenging environments.”

In addition to its patented Fence AntennaTM technology, the new GR-5 receiver features also include:

— High-accuracy RTK engine with position updates up to 100Hz

— Integrated dual communication system with multiple radio and cellular combinations

— Removable SD/SDHC storage card

— Extended battery life

— IP66 dustproof and waterproof rating

— MIL-STD shock and vibration tolerance

— Quick-SNAP pole mounting system

— Bluetooth® connectivity

— Operates with the full range of Topcon controller software packages

— Environmentally sealed external ports

— Precision-tuned, micro-centered antenna with full wave tracking

— Operates with rechargeable Li-Ion or alkaline batteries

“Combining the GR-5 and Topcon FC series controllers – including full-color screens and rich graphical interfaces – with TopSURV and Pocket 3D software for survey and construction jobs respectively,” O’Connor said, “creates a powerful tool that performs the most simple or difficult tasks. This enables every user to save time, increase productivity and drop more money to a company’s bottom line.”

Topcon Positioning Systems, Inc. (TPS) designs and manufactures precise positioning products and solutions for the global surveying, construction, agriculture, civil engineering, mapping and GIS, asset management and mobile control markets. TPS’ parent company, Topcon Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange – 7732), was founded in 1932.
