National web mapping for the higher and further education sector

Inspiring learning – Cadcorp software enables greater sharing of map data to UK education sector

Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp and the EDINA National Data Centre have announced that the latest version of the EDINA Digimap service has gone live.

Launched in 2000, the EDINA Digimap service specialises in the delivery of a number of geographical data resources over the internet to over 150 academic institutions.  National digital map data ranging from Ordnance Survey® (OS) products to geology, marine and historical maps can be accessed by staff and students free at point of use. Based on Cadcorp’s web mapping software GeognoSIS, the service also utilises a number of licences of Map Modeller, Cadcorp’s high-end desktop GIS system.

A new survey from Selftrade reveals a marked shift is taking place in people’s attitudes to money – as major life changes during the recession in 2009 create a society intolerant to debt and less likely to trust others to manage their money.

Survey Reveals Lack of Confidence in UK Property System (91% would use a “Buyers’ Agent”)

A recent survey commissioned by the Association of Property Finders and Buyers Agents (APFBA) highlights a requirement for more clarity in the role of UK estate agents when dealing with both sellers and buyers to avoid conflicts of interest. It also suggests that the need for buyers to be represented properly has never been so apparent if confidence is to be restored. Over 2000 people were questioned between November 2008 and March 2009. Worryingly, two thirds of buyers questioned believe that estate agents work for both buyer and seller. On being reminded that estate agents are generally paid to represent the best interests of the seller, 89% of buyers accepted that a conflict of interest exists where an agent deals with both buyer and seller in the same transaction. Buyer interest in UK property market increases for fourth month in a row.
