Trimble Develops Next Generation 3D Laser Scanner for Industrial Plant Applications

4:52 pm in Business, GPS, Land Surveying, Land Surveying Equipment, Laser Scanning, News, Trimble by Eric Colburn

3D Laser Scanner Combines Phase and Time of Flight Technologies
for Fast and Accurate Data Capture

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 29, 2009 — Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) introduced today the Trimble® CX 3D laser scanner with Trimble’s proprietary WAVEPULSE™ technology. WAVEPULSE combines the high short-range accuracy of phase-shift technology with the low-noise sensitivity and high-distance characteristics of time-of-flight technology. The result is high-precision measurements over the full operating range that provides the clean 3D data needed for industrial plant scanning applications—allowing the user to realize increased productivity and reduced operating costs. And by requiring fewer setups and enabling faster processing time in an industrial plant environment, the Trimble CX solution can contribute to improved worker safety.

Built for Efficiency in the Plant

The Trimble CX solution is built for efficient data capture in the plant. With reliable scanning at 50,000 points per second and an 80 meter range with a 360 degree x 300 degree field of view, the solution provides widespread and efficient data capture from a single setup. A rugged design, IP54 rating and protective housing for the rotating laser allow the scanner to deliver continuous and reliable results even in difficult industrial environments. An integrated camera collects additional image information that can improve the visualization, post-processing and communication of the captured data.

The Trimble CX is supported by Trimble Access™ software for Spatial Imaging, which runs on the Trimble Tablet rugged PC. Powerful and built for industrial conditions, the Trimble Tablet combines a large, daylight readable display, IP67 environmental rating and long battery life that can easily withstand the demands of plant environments. With intuitive and streamlined Trimble Access Software, capturing data with the Trimble CX requires a very short learning curve. Data can be seamlessly transferred to Trimble’s 3D scanning office software packages: Trimble RealWorks™ and Trimble LASERGen™ software.

International Association of Geodesy (IAG) meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina. NGS presentations addressed many issues in geodesy and spatial coordinate reference systems.

The meeting also presented an opportunity to highlight NGS’s new Gravity for the Redefinition of the American Vertical Datum (GRAV-D) initiative. In addition to the update of the GRAV-D Project, other meetings were held on IAG projects related to the application of geodetic theory and the practical aspects of implementing a common gravity-based height model for all of North America.

IAG is the largest international meeting on geodesy, and it is a primary venue to share research and ideas.

ESRI Extends Infrastructure Management at IBM Pulse 2009

ESRI ArcGIS Server, Together with IBM Maximo Spatial, Integrates Asset and Facilities Management into a Single, Scalable, and Continuous Solution.

Location, Location, Location–Improve Asset Management by Taking GIS Inside the Building

Redlands, CA (PRWEB) February 5, 2009 — ESRI, the world’s leading provider of geographic information system (GIS) software, will describe how ArcGIS Server with IBM Maximo Spatial delivers a single, scalable solution for asset and facilities management (FM) at IBM’s Pulse conference being held February 8-12, 2009, at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. ESRI will demonstrate and discuss how customers can design and deploy one continuous, enterprise geodatabase for assets both inside and outside facilities, giving property and facilities management professionals the tools and data they need to manage land, infrastructure, and building assets.

ESRI ArcGIS SErver along with IBM Maximo Spatial delivers a single scalable solution for asset and facility management.
ESRI’s ArcGIS SErver along with IBM Maximo Spatial delivers a single scalable solution for asset and facility management.

Clients like the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and National Park Service (NPS) use GIS to enhance their infrastructure and facilities asset management. Using ESRI’s ArcGIS Server and IBM Maximo Spatial, these agencies integrate spatial information and related infrastructure asset and work management data seamlessly. This allows NPS to better visualize assets and create smarter situational awareness, while BIA has expanded its ability to use asset data through integrating GIS with external systems.

Dennis Smith, ESRI federal government business development manager, and Julio Olimpio, ESRI strategic alliance manager for IBM, will be presenting a paper entitled “Location, Location, Location–Improve Asset Management by Taking GIS Inside the Building” on Wednesday, February 11, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the MGM Conference Center in room 112. This paper will address the importance of location in an asset management context, how traditional enterprise asset management (EAM) systems can scale to include FM capability, and the reasons why spatially enabled asset management is an especially critical business function in a down economy.
