PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR SURVEY

PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR SURVEY

In this week’s Professional Land Surveyor Survey, I’m asking  you:

How Important Is Technology For Running Your Business?

Yesterday, I wrote about 5 Winning Strategies To Running A Professional Land Surveying Business where I, in a nutshell, outlined five more or less old-fashioned common sense strategies behind running and operating a professional land surveying business.

Which got me to thinking:

I started to think about how important technology is to me, and to you, to the success of your land surveying business.

What do you think?

5 Winning Strategies To Running A Professional Land Surveying Business

I’m hoping that you all had an awesome week last week. News on the economy was mixed, with private sector jobs showing another small gain, while the jobs market, overall, is anything other than awesome. I did hear, over the weekend, that one pundit is predicting that the housing market will double in the next two years pulling us out of this recession. Sounds good to me!

How are you making out in these times?

While I’ve seen an uptick in the economy, and I’m grateful for it, it’s nothing to make me think that we’re out of the woods yet. The flow of money is loosening up, a little, and people are increasingly more willing to spend a few of their hard-earned money on things, like professional services. It is, however, a bumpy road to recovery with weeks looking up, and others not cooperating so much.

Is technology the answer?

Last week I posted the Professional Land Surveyor Survey-Business Conditions Survey for August 2010?, and had a few lively discussions about the economy and running a land surveying business. One land surveyor asked me what I thought was a winning strategy in these times. That’s a good question!

SURVEY: Will You Set Written Goals For Yourself In 2009?

January 2, 2009 in Associate Membership, Business, Land Surveying

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, it’s that time of year when we re-focus our thoughts and plan for the new year ahead. Now I’m not one of those people who need to, or limits myself to, only examining my goals at New Years: While I will look at the year past, and where I would like to be heading in the upcoming year, this will not be the only time throughout the year that I review, create and update my goals.

SET GOALS AND REAP THE BENEFITS!

It is well documented that you can improve your personal and business life with self evaluation and goal setting. Write them down, and you will do even better! Success, whether in your personal life or in your professional land surveying business, doesn’t just happen. It takes a lot of dedicated work, family support, a great network of business contacts, a vision, a little bit of luck, and goals to obtain the success you desire. Make your goals your road map to success!

IGNORE THE NAYSAYERS!

And, don’t let the naysayers (even yourself) shoot you down. Setting goals is important if for no other reason than the process. Taking time to think about your life and running your professional land surveying business is as an important endeavor as any other, if not more so. As a matter of fact, this is one goal that I’ve set for myself in the past that I will set the bar even higher for this year, as I think this is a very important. This year, I will schedule this “Thinking Time” into my week as a regular task ensuring that I meet this goal.

Finally, the higher you set your goals the better you will do. Just create a working plan with defined steps you will take to obtain your goals and give consistent effort towards meeting or exceeding them. Take the survey below and please feel free to share your 2009 goals, or what strategies have worked for you in the past, in the comments section.
