ArcGIS Software Empowers Agencies to Deliver Transparency and Accountability

January 4, 2012

Redlands, California—The State of Maryland has acquired an Esri enterprise license agreement (ELA) that provides unlimited access to ArcGIS software to staff in its agencies. Under Governor Martin O’Malley’s leadership, the state uses GIS for much of its work including groundbreaking transparency and accountability initiatives such as StateStat, GreenPrint, and PlanMaryland. Now, access to the software will extend to all corners of state government.

“The drive for this came down from the top,” said Kenny Miller, deputy geographic information officer, State of Maryland. “Governor O’Malley is such a tremendous supporter of using GIS technology to improve decision making and transparency that he wanted all the agencies to have access so they can adopt GIS in their business missions.”

Third Win for Kappa Mapping at National Geospatial Excellence Awards Program

Bangor, ME –  In November, Kappa Mapping took part in the fifth annual MAPPS Geospatial Products and Services Excellence Awards competition and won an award in the Small Projects category for the third consecutive year.

Kappa’s winning entry – Innovative Software use for Danbury Airport (DXR) Obstruction Mapping –  complied with government data collection and attribution requirements and supported precision approach analysis and certification.

 “Certification attracts aviation business and increases air access to the region, enhancing the airport’s economic viability,” explained Kappa Mapping President Claire Kiedrowski, who attended the awards ceremony in mid-November.

ASPRS Encourages Adoption of the National Land Imaging Program

ASPRS is working actively to support establishment of the National Land Imaging Program (NLIP), a long-range operational moderate resolution imaging program.  For the past several years, ASPRS has strongly supported the NLIP strategy through continuing communication with the Administration and Congress, and fully endorses its immediate implementation.

It is important that all ASPRS members speak up on this issue.  Therefore, we are encouraging you as a member of ASPRS to contact your congressional representatives in order to inform and educate them on the need to assure the continuous long-term operation of the Nation’s moderate resolution land remote sensing satellites.

TECTERRA Launches Alberta Post-Secondary Scholarship Program

CALGARY, January 5, 2011:  TECTERRA Inc. announced today the launch of the Future Geomatics Leaders Awards program, providing scholarship funds to top students studying in geomatics and related science or technology fields in Alberta post-secondary institutions.

Congratulations to the new class of CFedS Graduates!

The following list is of the recent June 2009 graduates of the Certified Federal Surveyor (CFeds) program. But first, here is a brief description of the CFedS program:
What is a CFedS?

The Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS) program will:

  • Increase the pool of qualified surveyors to complete the backlog of surveys in Indian Country.
  • Ensure surveys on Indian lands comply with regulations and policies decreasing the chance and expense of rework.
  • Offer Tribal surveyors the ability to better serve their Tribe with enhanced skills and knowledge.
  • Provide opportunities to increase self-determination.
  • This site provides an internet home for CFedS surveyors and groups that are requiring the services provided by the CFedS .

This site provides an Internet home for CFedS surveyors and groups that are requiring the services provided by the CFedS. The Certified Federal Surveyor site provides registration and training for licensed land surveyors to register for the CFedS program, monitor their progress through the course work and educational material, and to maintain their CFedS Profile for program users to access their services.

For groups that are using the services of the CFedS Surveyor this site provides tools to locate available CFedS services in their area and to contact potential service providers. Financial and contract arrangements for services will be handled directly by the groups procuring services and the CFedS Surveyor.

This site also provides a mechanism for continuous feedback on the performance of the functions in this site and the ability to contact CFedS Program Managers.
