ASPRS Encourages Adoption of the National Land Imaging Program

ASPRS is working actively to support establishment of the National Land Imaging Program (NLIP), a long-range operational moderate resolution imaging program.  For the past several years, ASPRS has strongly supported the NLIP strategy through continuing communication with the Administration and Congress, and fully endorses its immediate implementation.

It is important that all ASPRS members speak up on this issue.  Therefore, we are encouraging you as a member of ASPRS to contact your congressional representatives in order to inform and educate them on the need to assure the continuous long-term operation of the Nation’s moderate resolution land remote sensing satellites.

THE NETHERLANDS – Carlson Software, U.S.-based developer of technically advanced design software for land surveying, civil engineering, construction and mining industries, established a wholly owned subsidiary, Carlson EMEA BV, this June in the Netherlands to support and expand the Carlson business in  Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Joining Jan Bech in the United Kingdom and Jesus Latova in Spain to make up the Carlson EMEA team are four industry experts who formerly worked for the European Topcon Sokkia group. Bech has been handling Carlson’s European and Canadian sales for the past four years and is a specialist in Carlson desktop solutions and Latova is the director of Data Collection Product Design for Carlson.

Professional Land Surveyor News: Carlson’s New SurvPC Data Collection Software Provides SurvCE Power on a Windows® PC

If you currently use a Windows PC, such as a ruggedized laptop and Carlson SurvCE, or are considering switching to or adding either to your surveyor’s toolbox, here’s a good piece of news: Carlson has just released Carlson SurvPC, a full-screen version of Carlson’s popular data collection software, Carlson SurvCE. Carlson says that SurvPC can be used on any standard Windows PC computers, including ruggedized laptops. Carlson SurvPC is a new release following their recent release of SurvCE, version 2.5, which is a free upgrade for those utilizing version 2.0 and forward.

Professional Land Surveyor News: Air Force Upgrades GPS Constellation

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The 2nd and 19th Space Operations Squadron will soon take control of the Air Force’s newest GPS satellite following its tentative launch into orbit May 27 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla.

The GPS IIF SV-1 satellite represents a substantial upgrade for the GPS constellation. Thanks to improvements with the cesium-based atomic clocks used for timing, the IIF is expected to provide more accurate navigation signals than those of its predecessors.

The new IIF satellite will also broadcast two new signals: a jam resistant military code signal and a third civil signal known as the L5.

This latest addition is part of an ongoing modernization effort for the GPS constellation by the Air Force.
