Hemisphere GPS Introduces New miniEclipse™ Compact OEM Modules with GNSS Support

CALGARY, March 28, 2012 /CNW/ - (TSX: HEM) Today, Hemisphere GPS announces the Eclipse™ P300 and Eclipse P301 OEM modules – the next generation high-performance compact modules for RTK GNSS applications. Based on new Hemisphere GPS multi-function application firmware and Eclipse GNSS multi-constellation technology, P300 and P301 provide the ability for tracking commercially available GNSS signals for precise positioning.

P300 is a drop-in board replacement for Hemisphere GPS’ successful Crescent® L1 board as well as the first-generation miniEclipse P200 GPS-only OEM board. P301 is our 20-pin OEM module configured as a drop-in replacement for a different industry standard interface. Eclipse P300 and P301 improve GNSS positioning performance, particularly with RTK applications, through Hemisphere GPS’ patent-pending SureTrack® technology. Benefits include extended and more robust RTK solutions as the rover RTK receiver will process all available signals even if they are not common with the base receiver. RTK solutions are therefore better maintained in challenging environments, with baselines of up to 50 km, and reacquisition times are improved resulting in more robust overall performance.

CONSTRUCTION SPENDING HITS 17-MONTH HIGH IN NOVEMBER WITH MONTHLY GAINS IN ALL SEGMENTS BUT PUBLIC SPENDING DOWN 5.3 PERCENT COMPARED TO LAST YEAR

Both Single- and Multifamily Homebuilding Improve from October and Year Ago; Private Nonresidential Increases from November 2010 are Widespread; Most Public Categories Drop from Year-Earlier Levels

Construction spending totaled $807 billion in November 2011, the highest level since June 2010, as homebuilding, private nonresidential construction and public construction all increased compared to October, the Associated General Contractors of America reported today in an analysis of new Census Bureau data. Association officials cautioned, however, that public spending will drop even further in 2012 because of delays in enacting needed infrastructure bills and planned cuts to many federal construction programs.

“Several segments of construction appear to be climbing out of a hole,” said the association’s chief economist, Ken Simonson. “The new year should reinforce recent year-over-year gains in apartment, power, manufacturing and private transportation construction. But November’s upturns in single-family homebuilding and public construction may not be sustainable.”

IRVINE, CA and CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA–(Marketwire – Sep 8, 2011) - Locata Corporation today announced it has successfully completed the Critical Design Review (CDR) contract phase for a Locata network which will enable the USAF to deploy a new ground-based, centimeter-accurate “truth-reference level” positioning system for use in GPS-denied environments. The USAF 746th Test Squadron (746TS) awarded Locata a multi-year contract for this project in July 2010, and the CDR was the last milestone to be met before the USAF committed to a technology demonstration in the USA. Locata’s Non-GPS Based Positioning System (NGBPS) — sold commercially as a LocataNet — will provide accurate positioning when GPS is jammed over 2,500 sq. miles (6,500 sq. kilometers) of the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) in New Mexico.

Private-sector analysts had expected a 4.6-percent decrease.

Construction Backlog Up 10 Percent In Second Quarter

August 16, 2011 in Associate Membership, Business, Land Surveying, News

August 16, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today reports that its Construction Backlog Indicator (CBI) increased 10 percent in the second quarter of 2011 to an average of 8.1 months, up from 7.3 months the previous quarter. The CBI is 12 percent higher than one year ago. CBI is a forward-looking indicator that measures the amount of construction work under contract to be completed in the future.

“While the increase in construction backlog appears to be good news at first glance, taking a broader look reveals that the rise in the nation’s construction activity may be a reflection of the economic momentum that existed several months ago, but is now beginning to weaken,” said ABC Chief Economist Anirban Basu.

“The nation’s economic recovery has remained fragile since June 2009 and any observed recovery in construction volumes has been tentative,” Basu said. “The events of the last few weeks have had a negative impact on both the overall economy and the nation’s construction sector, with business leaders generally seeking to reduce exposure to risk and investment volatility.
