Professional Land Surveyor News-STAR*NET Purchased by MicroSurvey
MicroSurvey recently announced that after years of negotiations with Starplus Software, Inc. President Ron Sawyer, the Starplus Software product line is being transferred to Microsurvey. STAR*NET is a least squares software product used by many professional land surveyors.
The press release announcing this acquisition of STAR*NET by MicroSurvey also reports that Ron Sawyer is retiring from the business after 22 years of developing and supplying STAR*NET to the professional land surveying industry.
“I am ready to pass STAR*NET onto a new group, but it was critical to me that the product would not be put on a shelf by some big company.” said Ron Sawyer, “MicroSurvey has shown a strong interest in the program and I believe they will grow STAR*NET sales both in North America and throughout the world in many countries and a variety of languages.”
MicroSurvey is a developer of surveying and mapping software and hardware solutions for over 25 years.
MicroSurvey President Darcy Detlor said:
“This is a great day for STAR*NET customers,” and, “The program will be carried on with improvements and modernization where needed, but we will make sure we keep the simplicity and elegance of the product intact. STAR*NET is without a doubt the most popular Least Squares Adjustment package on the market and with the help of its users, we will make sure that continues for many years to come.”
MicroSurvey reports that it plans to improve STAR*NET for better Windows 7 operation, improved support for DWG/DXF, improved graphics, larger network adjustment capabilities, and research into creating a 64 bit version.
Having used STAR*NET in the past, which is an excellent least squares adjustment program, I'm very excited about the prospect of these proposed improvements. Maybe, with the improvements to STAR*NET and incorporation into the MicroSurvey software line, Autodesk will make some much needed improvements to its own least squares adjustment features in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
