March 25, 2010.
Today, Autodesk Unveiled its 2011 software updates for building design, infrastructure and construction industries, including the new AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011.
Jay Bhatt, senior vice president of AEC Industry Solutions said about the overall autodesk 2011 Software Portfolio:
“The building design, construction and infrastructure industries must improve productivity, while at the same time completing complex projects on time and at, or under budget,” said Jay Bhatt, senior vice president of AEC Industry Solutions. “Our new 2011 software helps support that goal by capitalizing on the enormous benefits of Building Information Modeling, and facilitating multidisciplinary collaboration from start to finish for everything from new construction and renovations on residential and business projects to large-scale infrastructure and government projects.”

AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011
Specific to surveying and civil engineering, AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 was unveiled with several exciting improvements and upgrades.
The emphasis Autodesk is making with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 is for it to be the "building information modeling (BIM) solution for civil engineering, helps teams deliver higher-quality transportation, land development, and environmental projects faster". The promise of a "model-based approach" should help in project management and document control. Providing better coordination of project documents by focusing on "higher-quality documentation and visualizations" will appeal to many.
Here's a list of key new features include in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011:
- Scalability and performance improvements, as well as an optimized 64-bit version of Civil 3D
- Tools to better manage the creation and editing of corridors
- Enhanced superelevation functionality that provides a dynamic link to the alignment and flexible editing options
I think that everyone will be glad to see an optimized 64-bit version of AutoCAD Civil 3D in this software upgrade. What I don't see, however, is any information touting improvements to the land surveying functions and tools included in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011, but I'll keep you informed as I learn more.
