EricColburn.com, the Professional Land Surveyor Source, Turns 4!
Time flies when you're having fun - it suddenly dawned on me that I've blogged for four years now! It hardly seems possible, but four years ago this month I created EricColburn.com.
In the early days of this site I had a limited, for sure. Since then, however, I am daily humbled by the connections I make from around the globe. It turns out that land surveyors are much the same, everywhere.
From the beginning, I had a vision of what I wanted to do. Since then my focus has sharpened a bit. My original goals were to grow a community dedicated to land surveyors, to share land surveying news and updates, and to share some of the land surveying knowledge I've collected over the years.
Lately, my attention has turned more and more to that last point, with training and consultation now being more of my focus. I'm concentrating more on training and consultation as a direct response from you, the reader. Not a day goes by where I'm not sought out for advice on business, land surveying, or AutoCAD Civil 3D (sometimes all three).
Most simple requests I freely answer. As is the case with much to do about land surveying, and particularly AutoCAD Civil 3D, the issues are often complicated, requiring an experienced and well thought out solution that simply cannot be given for free. Such is life, there are no free lunches!
Do you need business, land surveying or AutoCAD Civil 3D help? If so, please contact me. You can learn more about working with me and my solutions here:
EricColburn.com Tops 1000 Posts!
I knew that I was getting close to the 1000 blog post milestone, but somehow I missed when that happened sometime in the last month or so. This weekend, when I began writing this post (#1036) to celebrate our 4-Year Anniversary, I realized that my last blog post was, in fact, blog post #1035.
Sure it's just a number. But, to me, in publishing 1036 blog post over 4 years fulfills another of my goals: To publish one blog post for every work day, on average. Demand for extra content on the weekends is growing, so for a while now I've expanded content into the weekends to meet that need, too.
What To Expect In The Upcoming Year
History is great, and it's nice to reminisce about the good time the last 4 years have brought. BUT, the big question is, as always: What are you going to do for us now? Boy, you're a tough crowd... but I love it!
Now is no time to rest on our laurels, and we all need to build on our hard-earned successes to build a better future. And, that's what I'm doing now and have planned for the future.
You might have noticed my recent focus on these three areas:
I am publishing more of the Professional Land Surveyor Podcast series, which is fun, and provides a fantastic experience for those of you that enjoy listening to your content. I do too! If you've not listened to many (or any) podcasts in the past (mine or others), then I urge you to do so. Podcasts are a great way to get quality online content.
I'm an inquisitive person, and I love to learn about new people, tools, and technologies from knowledgeable
people in their own words. You can watch the first interview here: Professional Land Surveyor Vlog 004-Survey Earth in a Day Interview. Future interviews will also be in video, but I'll also have audio formatted interviews, too. If you'd like to be interviewed, or are looking for a topic to be covered, please contact me.
I've been busy publishing videos in the form of AutoCAD Civil 3D tutorials, Vlogs, and recently, interviews. There's no doubt about it, you like receiving your content by video. You can expect more video content in the upcoming year, including new and innovative collaborative videos. Stay tuned for a soon to be released announcement!
Thank You, Work Smart and Be Brilliant!
This blog post has been entirely too much about me, but that's expected with a blog post about this site. However, I'm much more interested to learn about you. What is it that YOU would like to see in this blog? Send me a message or leave a comment so that I know what you want to read and learn about.
Finally, I could not have accomplished 4 years of blogging and publishing EricColburn.com, the Professional Land Surveyor Source, without your valued response and support.
Thank you, work smart and be brilliant,
Eric D. Colburn, PLS
