Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

WASHINGTON – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today solicited proposals from state and local governments, eligible universities and other public entities to develop six unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) research and test sites around the country. Through the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, Congress directed the FAA to establish this program to conduct critical research into how best to safely integrate UAS systems into the national airspace over the next several years and what certification and navigation requirements will need to be established.

Gatewing Introduces Stretchout UAV Desktop Processing

Ghent, Belgium – December 15, 2011 – Gatewing®, manufacturer of the revolutionary X100 unmanned aerial system (UAS) for mapping and surveying, introduces Gatewing Stretchout™, a breakthrough image processing solution which automatically converts your X100 image data to accurate orthophotos and DSMs.

“With Gatewing Stretchout™ we’ve challenged the accepted way of traditional photogrammetry by introducing highly advanced vision technology that changes the way you process your images. Stretchout™ runs fully automatic at the best possible performance and delivers georeferenced orthophotos and DSMs with an incredible accuracy. As the software is supplied by the same company that manufactures the UAV, you get a fully integrated system that was entirely designed to be simple and intuitive,” said Pieter-Jan Baeck – Head of Software at Gatewing.

Gatewing X100 Product Video 2011

Gatewing X100

Here’s an informative video from Gatewing highlighting their Gatewing X100 product.

About the Gatewing X100

From Gatewing:

The X100 is the result of a thorough and multidisciplinary engineering process. It has been designed with two main goals in mind and with due consideration for the demanding field worker.

  • It carries a camera payload, flies in a straight and regular scan pattern and returns to the operator in a safe and shock-free manner. It completes the job under a wide range of weather and environmental conditions.
  • It allows for day-to-day handling and intensive use, just like any other surveying device. We conceived the X100 not merely as an unmanned aircraft, but as a comprehensive tool!

Through its optimized and unparalleled aerodynamic design, cleverly engineered body structure and carefully chosen materials, the X100 meets all the requirements perfectly.

Gatewing X100

Gatewing X100

This video shows the Gatewing X100, an unmanned aircraft for aerial terrain mapping, in action. So much of the technology we use in land surveying and mapping is bleeding edge, technology gee whiz wonderment, so you’d think that we’ve seen it all and there’s nothing left to knock our socks off – And then comes along something like this – a fast and easy to use remote sensing light unmanned aircraft.

WOW, Q didn’t even have a gadget this cool for James Bond 007!

Coolness aside, and it’s very cool indeed, the Gatewing X100 is a revolutionary light unmanned aircraft remote sensing solution built for rapid terrain mapping. Watch the video after the jump. Read the rest of this entry →
