AutoCAD Civil 3D Surveying Quick Tips and Tricks

In today’s AutoCAD Civil 3D Surveying Quick Tips and Tricks I will show How to Rotate Model Space.

This technique can help you to speed up your AutoCAD Civil 3D drawing by aligning your model space other than having north straight up.

The Problem:

By default, AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings are oriented with north pointing up. This sometimes is inconvenient when you are trying to create your drawings in Model Space, especially when the property you are surveying, or the site you are designing, is not suited to drawing with north facing up.

What we’re trying to accomplish:

  1. Work faster by orienting the real world to the Model Space/your computer screen.

Use AutoCAD DVIEW Command with a Twist (TW) to Rotate Model Space

  1. First, determine the rotation angle that you’d like to apply to your Model Space. I often determine this from a line or feature that I would like to have oriented horizontal, or vertical, on the computer screen.
  2. Enter DVIEW at the command line.
  3. Then right click in the drawing to get the options list to appear.
  4. Enter TW (TWist) at the command line and then enter your rotation angle from Step 1 above.

At this point, your Model Space will be reoriented to the rotation angle you entered in the DVIEW TWist command.

In the next AutoCAD Civil 3D Surveying Quick Tips and Tricks I’ll show you how to adjust the curser to the rotated View. I’m also writing a AutoCAD Civil 3D Surveying Topics on how to use the DVIEW command effectively in your AutoCAD drawings.
