The three questions Kate Bourdet of 3DPerspectives asked Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry are as follows:
- Can you tell me if you believe in 3D is a universal language?
- Can you tell me what Innovation means to you?
- What is the future of architecture?
I think that these are important questions for Professional Land Surveyors to also ask as it pertains to the Professional Land Surveying , engineering and design industries? More and more, our work goes well beyond the flat piece of paper or blueprint copy that our customers are used to receiving from us in the past as a project deliverable. It's not that we haven't worked with three dimensional data, in fact surveyors always have, it's just that now, more than ever, we have the tools to easily display and design in 3D. This is a natural evolution within our profession and there is a need for 3-dimensional data and representations.
Professional Land Surveyors, are uniquely qualified and knowledgeable about gathering, analyzing, and presenting 3-dimensional data. And, this is a service that our customers want and need. So, I recommend that Professional Land Surveyors learn the tools (including myself, I've got much to learn, too) that now allow 3-dimensional analysis and representation of data in our project designs and deliverables.
Expanding your skills and business products and services into 3-dimensional data may well increase your worth and profitability. Also consider the fourth dimension - Time. More on that later!
