Wow! That's all I can say. What a fantastic event to promote professional land surveyors and our industry.

I've always felt that the sort of "hands-on" examples that land surveyors can bring to math classes make it more understandable and interesting to the student. At least it did for me.

In my next life I'm coming back as a professional land surveyor in Texas. You not only do it bigger, but also better. It's so nice to see this sort of industry promotion and public outreach.

Keep up the brilliant work!

This has become an annual event here in Texas. The ultimate goal is to expose high school teachers and counselors to Land Surveying with the idea that they will turn the students on to surveying as a career. There is some evidence that is seems to be working.

Thanks for the post, Eric!

We had a fantastic time at the educators retreat with close to 40 math, science, geography teachers and tech/career counselors from throughout the state in attendance, plus nearly that many industry professionals serving as speakers and volunteers. With record breaking temperatures, we received some wholly justified grumblings about the heat...But overall feedback was extremely positive!

Comments included:

"I was able to see how geometry and trig can be applied through surveying"

"I could tell everyone involved cares about this profession."

"I loved being able to apply the math that I teach using surveying techniques. I believe that my struggling students will glean a lot more from math by having these types of activities incorporated in their math sessions."

"Hospitality was above and beyond!"

My own comments... I've worked with many advisory groups and professionals in every industry, and those in land surveying are at the top of my list! Their enthusiasm, stick-to-it-iveness, and get-it-done attitude can't be beat! Hurrah for the Land Surveying profession!
